Meet the New Joe, Not the Same as the Old Joe
By Joe McDonald

With so much offseason turmoil for the New York Yankees, it’s funny to see essentially the same team that lost to the Cleveland Indians take the field in Tampa.

Alex Rodriguez is still here, as is Andy Pettitte. Jason Giambi will be at first and Hideki Matsui will slot into the DH slot. But really, everything else is somewhat the same.

Oh, there is the manager. Joe Torre is gone and Joe Girardi is now manning the helm. It will be very interesting to see how the veteran Yankees react to working for a guy who was their teammate only a few years ago.

And also, how will Girardi react to the criticism that comes from managing the New York Yankees? He couldn’t survive in Florida, what about Gotham?

And if Girardi implodes, what does that mean for the highly talented, but getting older Bombers, who are also relying upon three young arms to move them into New Yankee Stadium next season.

Let’s take a closer look.
